Summertimes, good times
Hello everybody! Everything good? I have been on vacation abroad and in general enjoying summer and an empty shedule.
This blog is in no way dead or abandoned! I just don't post regulary or very often, this is not something I do to get attention or earn a fanbase or something, rather that I just like doing it from time to time.
Anyway here is a half-quick sketch of an elf face I did today.
Early version and kind of finished version. Made for exercise.

Zero-suit Samus
A new super smash bros game is on it's way. In celebration I drew a mean looking zero-suit samus yesterday. I'm not sure how well it turned out. Typically when I draw something I get very satisfied with how it looks and when I see it one week later I hate it.
This was the result anyhow.
Human anatomy is super hard so this was good exercise. Not sure if her legs look weird or if this is a viable pose :P Have been putting a lot of time lately into improving on faces, eyes and so on. They are the most important features on a character.
I want to be better at drawing out of my head and I tend to go too deep into detail and shading before the proportions etcetera are fully right, which I need to exercise more on too.
First sketch and proportions, then details plus shading (note to myself ^^).
Have a great day everybody!
PS: new wip of the portrait coming soon.

Taylor Swift portait done!
Finally done :D Was a long time since I did a portrait. I have to be in the right mood, no rush and so on so I can't always draw on them even when I want to.
Here it is though!
The process (wips)
Here is another Taylor Swift I drew in 2011 :) This was my third or fourth or something portrait ever, when I was learning. Well I'm still learning of course, I have very far before I can draw portraits the way I want to but it's always nice to notice progress!

Dark Skies
Once in a while there comes along a movie who sets itself apart from others, this one is such.
When I saw there was a new horror from the producer of "Paranormal activity" and "insidious" (my two all time favourite horror pictures) I coudn't be anything other than exited.
I watch a whole bunch of horror movies, just recently "The grudge", "Mama" and "The shining" to name a few. None of the above mentioned left me "touched" like this one did.
A family of four are starting to experience unusual occurences in their house. The home intruder alarm is set off, all sensors at the same time, without anyone actually beeing in the house. All photos dissapear from their frames and a prismatic sculpture appears in their kitchen, projecting ringmarked shapes in the ceiling.
The youngest son Sam soon reveals that he has been speaking to someone in the night, someone he refers to as the "sandman". One night the mother Lucy wakes up and walks around the house to check nobody is there, only to find a slim dark figure bent over her son's bed, only to dissapear the next second.
The sky is darker than ever. One can only ponder the question, which is more terrifying; beeing alone in the universe or finding out that we aren't.
The pure suspence this move creates is astonishing, it never went dull and for the first time in a very long time I actually felt somewhat scared as the titlescreen started rolling.
The critique Dark skies has recieved is that it's not "visually spectacular" or the "CGI was lacking".
That is EXACTLY why it is so much better than others in its genre in my view.
Fear is and has always been aroused by the unknown, not knowing what is awaits us is frightening.
That's what the movie business has gotten all wrong, big computer generated monsters running around the screen howling and cracking skulls with blood splashing everywhere is not scary. Things that we can not relate to in our own reality is not frightening for the same reason. What we don't see on the screen is most times more fearsome than what we do. Our own imagination is doing all the hard work here.
Psychological horrors/thrillers as this really reach under your
skin. Buildning suspense around acting, a screenplay that packs a punch
and capturing shots the right way is some of the things movie making
should be all about. That beeing said; Dark Skies does all this. It's
dark, artful and terrifying.
All in all it has its downs too. Some things were a bit too stereotypical, a bit more creativity here wouldn't have hurt. Yes the CGI wasn't a major part of the movie but the parts that were actually there didn't look remarkable.
Despite that this is easily one of my top three horror pictures of all time, adding to paranormal activity and insidious.
8 out of 10.

Ahoy
Sorry for beeing a little inactive here lately. I've not been drawing so much lately, I've been cathing up on school and I'm trying to be more active in other parts of my life.
Here is the first picture of a new portrait I'm doing. If you know this celebrity I think you can recognize her from this picture. This portrait is also going to be of a more "minimalistic" style. I hope it will turn out nicely, we'll just have to wait and see.
I'll post more wips of this along the way as I always do.
Cheers!

Thor!
Thor! With his hammer.
I was looking thorugh old drawings of mine and noticed this one depicting thor smashing a giant in the face with mjölnir. I decided I wanted to draw Thor again, just because he is awesome.
Here's the progress I've made in three years drawing vikings apparently:

So as I mentioned before I am trying to improve my techniques when drawing in photoshop.
It is tedious and hard but I make a little progress.

This is quite old but I'm rewatching the Ali G show with Sasha Baron Cohen and this interview is one of the funniest things I've seen. Laughing so hard it hurts...
And since I'm already putting up youtube clips here are two more.

The Joker version 2
So I have been drawing like a mad man today... Here is a more realistic and evil version of the joker.
Around 40 minutes to draw.
Not a 100% happy with it. Wanted it to look more evil. Good exercise anyhow.

Feces, ehrm I mean faces!
Still trying to learn photoshop a bit better, improving a little but I got to a point where I thought "screw it" and doodled this on a paper just because.
Human faces are some of the hardest things I think to draw. Portraits are one thing, there you just copy a picture, but to draw from your mind is harder. No matter whether it is realistic looking or a more comic styled face like this.

I'm currently practicing a little drawing in photoshop again. I hate it because I suck at it so much and it's so hard, but I'm not giving up just yet. I found a very cool speedpainting which I try to use techniques from and I thought I could post it here as well.

Caffeine
So it was quite a long time since I wrote anything about health/fitness so why not.
I didn't know it but I have a caffeine addiction. When I started drinking coffee it made me more alert in school and could keep my head in the game for a bit longer. Things soon got out of hand and it got to the point where I would wake up in the morning and immediately drink up to half a litre of coffe (50 cl) just to wake up. Even after this I would be tired all day, drink energy drinks, coca cola and stuff without an end.
When I decided to stop I got a headache, I felt moody and unmotivated to do anything. I was more tired than before but I knew I needed to stop or atleast start make my caffein intake "normal/not exaggerated". The headache lasted for two days, I started to feel a little more energized after a while and today when I woke up I was quite fresh and motivated to do stuff.
Hm so that's what I've done more recently, other than my normal workouts. Here it's springtime and it has gotten a lot warmer outside, which has made me exercise more outside. I've gone for a few runs and I really prefer beeing outside on a jog than inside a gym on a treadmill.
Other than that not much to add, will go on my second ever diet in about a month or so. I will try to lose like eight kilos and will probably put up before and after pictures.

Hipster time
As the title implies I'm a hipster today. Drawing in photoshop is too mainstream, good ol' paint is the shit. I made a tutorial too on how i went along. Just for fun, I should really be studying for a test tomorrow but who cares.
First I did a normal sketch:
In paint there's no opacity, if you draw it will cover EVERYTHING.
Start filling in details once the foundation paint is done.
Lastly, I just did more details and some highlights.
And voilá hipster picture done :) Who need photoshop?

Introversion
Hey guys.
I've been thinking quite a lot about the concept of beeing "introvert", meaning someone who is thinking rather than speaking, someone who's percieved as shy or drawn back.
Better explained here:
Beeing shy and introverted are two enirely different things though, also nobody is either only introverted or extroverted. We are all somewhere in the middle of the specrum, just more or less towards either side of it.
More on the subject:
That beeing said, after I saw these videos I immideately identified myself as more of an "introvert".
My entire life I've been the "silent type" (that's what teachers said althrough elementary school atlest).
I have oppinions in all different matters but I just don't feel I have the need to express them. I know what I think and respect what others think. I don't want to convince someone something, that's for politicians. I like to listen though and develope myself, getting more all around educated and think broader. Yet again I just don't have the need to tell others what to think and the concept of arguing is to me pointless. For this I've been called "shy" and "drawn back".
Society today is built around extroverts and we need to be outgoing and "sell" ourselves in orders to get a job or a place in a community. All job applications I've applied for last years have the demand for "social skills". Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-social, I am quite the social guy who loves hanging with buddies and so on. I just don't feel I have to engange in social activities every day to feel part of something. For this I've always felt the need to change myself, beeing by yourself is not desired. Even today at university level education, almost everything is about working as a group, learning to exchange ideas and collaborate to benefit society later.
In this "quest" for changing myself to fit the template I've gone to some lenghts. I don't regret that today, it's helped me a lot, but that's mainly because there's no place for somebody who's not thriving in the limelight to be of help or interest.
I'd rather sit at home alone watching a movie or drawing than going out to the bar, and thinking about it what's really wrong with that? I have no other career ambition other that finding something that I enjoy doing, I don't need to get rich or famous. Actually I'd rather not.
My only ambition in life is to be happy. Seems strange to many but thinking about it it's very logical. I don't need to change myself to please others. I am social when I feel like it and give myself personal space when I need it.
That's it. People are different and have always been. What I've not realised until quite recently is that we need to create room for us to be ourselves, politically and socially.
Self-contemplation is a good source for positive change but often forgotten about.
Not every solution can be found by discussing or arguing and is it a democracy if only the people who crave to be heard are? Are those with the most ambition the best suited leaders?`Can one be "social" and truly be themselves at the same? I am not sure but this needs to be put into consideration more often.

In its final stage I think, might need a little refinement here and there but this is more or less the final product. What do you guys think? I think it turned out ok, not 100% satisfied but ah well.

CD cover
Hello guys, sorry for beeing a bit inactive here lately, have been working furiously on this piece.
Work in progress:
A commission for a metal band called "Burn the Plague". (The same band I made this for):
Anyhow let´s talk a bit about the upper piece, the one in progress. I've never done writing before, all I knew was that I wanted the font to look "angry" and "dark". I drew a sketch of it in my notepad and then drew it in photoshop after my sketch.
Also while I have very little experience in drawing in photoshop I have little to no experience at all on drawing landscapes and fonts and all that, I usually just do a funky character like the bottom picture.
Anyhow, what is left is illuminating/highlighting certain parts, filling out the letters more, refining the silhuetts and the stuff in the foreground and over all reshape/refine everything. This is just the first sketch it might change a lot and look quite different when it's done.

Colour
What do you guys think, should I start doing more coloured stuff? This is my only one so far.
It was fun but I it's much easier to get depth in graphite drawings (black and white).
But hey who said life's just about going the easy path? :)

Another wip
Did some highlights in the hair today. Also tried to make parts of the face darker to give it more depth. This camera shot is poor but I hope I can get a scan when this is done.
I draw on this in one hour periods right now, because I get tired of it so fast when there's only hair and backdrop left to do :P The fun part is the face, especially the eyes. If the eyes fail the whole portrait fails.
Yes so that's it, just wanted to post a quick wip and update a little. Hope you have a great day!
Flight
This movie was really good. A captain on board a passenger jet who suffers some very severe faliure in mid-flight. He pulls a miracle landing and saves over a hundred lives, with only four casualties.
In the following investigation they find out he was intoxicated at the time and from beeing a hero he soon becomes the villain. He struggles with his drug addiction and alcoholism while still trying to save his own skin from going to prison for lifetime for manslaghter.
The cinematography was really good, not spectacular but very nice nonetheles. The acting, screenplay and the directing was also top notch, Denzel Washington gets to play a little more diverse role than he normally does and he shows he can pull it off. There were many interesting dialogues too. My only real concern was that it felt just a little drawn out at the end, I think they could have focused a tad less on his drinking problem.
Other than that, a really great movie.
My score is 8 out of 10.

The currently largest social media site and kind of the center of the internet it seems, even my milk-bottle tells me to go there godammit.
I look at facebook probably 20-30 times a day when I'm at the computer, not because I care what is there but it has become a habit. Frankly I just get annoyed most the time when I'm there, "like in 3 seconds, otherwise this kitten will drown" or "share this irrelevant picture to 500 people to save the world" or even "you have over 9000 requests to play farmville".
There are aspects I like too of course. It's an easy and fun way to interact with people and perhaps stay in touch with old school buddies etc that you wouldn't have otherwise. Get invited to events and so on.
I think people tend to take it too seriously though. They panic if they aren't available at all times and stuff in their life has no meaning unless it can be shared with everyone, at least the essense of it, to creat a little jealousy. Live in the current folks, enjoy moments instead of wurring about how to get them onto the internet. I have the same issue with people who go on vacations and take five billion photos of everything, when they get home will they feel they really experienced the place or will they feel like they just made a photo-album for themselves in case they got alzeimers?
Which quickly brings me to the next topic. Facebook brings forth a false picture of reality. People will in general only write about stuff that makes them happy or they are proud of. When was the last time your heard someone write about how bad they are at driving or how insufficient they feel?
In reality not everybody is happy all the time and has a perfect life, it's just those parts they feel comfortable about sharing.
Is there a thought behind every status update, think about that for a while. If someone writes for example "just had the best wine ever" what purpose does that really serve? Does the wine taste better if a few people like the status? Will someone else benefit from reading that? It's kind of pointless when you think about it.
Instead write something that will make people smile, write something insightful that will make them think or gain something from it. Share happiness with others instead of trying to get them to make you happy.
Speaking from my own experience, good self esteem or self-satisfaction does not come from other people telling you how great you are, it comes from the ability to not give a shit about what others think in the first place. Think about that the next time you "facebook"
